Garuda Indonesia, the country’s national flight carrier will be resuming flights to the USA in 2017, according to the CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Arif Wibowo, who said “id on Wednesday, June 15, 2016: “Next year we will try (to fly to the USA) because it is part of our five year plan. If we can go sooner, we will.”

He also said that there is a potential market of 400,000 passengers a year from the USA to Indonesia. Destinations with the greatest potential have been identified as Los Angeles and New York with flights transiting Narita, Japan on the Boeing 777 as direct flights are not yet possible.

 “Los Angeles alone has the potential for 120,000 passengers and New York has been examined and has an even greater potential,” he said.

In a separate forum, the Director-General of Air Communications for the Ministry of Transportation said the results of a FAA safety audit would be published at the latest in July. Government aviation authorities are optimistic that the FAA will issue a report favorable of Garuda Indonesia’s operations.
