Indonesia’s Tourism Minister, Arief Yahya says he will not pause to rest until the number of tourists to Indonesia exceeds those visiting Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The Minister made this remark at the Bali’s Tourism Academy (STP) in Nusa Dua, Bali recently and urged tourism professionals and younger generations to partake in the government’s on-going efforts.

He told hundreds of graduates at the conference that “no one should sleep” before Indonesia welcomes more tourists than Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. He also said that the younger generation should understand Indonesia’s weaknesses in the tourism industry as well as it’s “enemies and competitors”, as reported by Metrobali.com.

The Minister continued to state that lack of promotion is Indonesia’s main weakness in tourism, and that the Ministry is now promoting the branding of “Wonderful Indonesia” around the world.

Indonesia is currently targeting to achieve 12 million foreign tourist arrivals. Neighbouring countries have achieved much larger totals such as Malaysia (27 million), Thailand (25 million) and Singapore (20 million).
